On February 23, 2015 I filed a freedom of information act (FOIA) request with the FBI asking for all files relating to EPYX / Automated Simulations from 1975 through 1995.
Their response is attached. Short answer: the FBI found no relevant records.
Here is the text of my request:
This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act.
I am requesting any and all files relating to the company EPYX. The company was also known as Automated Simulations (please search for both names.) It was a video game developer based in San Francisco, CA. Date range: 1975 though 1995.
I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at archive.org. The company was a major player in the formation of the early computer game industry, and is of great interest from a historical perspective.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request be filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you for your time.
